In keeping with CarDon’s family spirit, staff members and residents love giving back, especially during difficult times like these.
For the second year in a row, CarDon’s community in Fishers helped spread cheer and charity to foster children. Over the holidays, residents donated money (over $1,000) and items to fill 30 duffel bags for children entering foster care.
Once they’re in foster care, children normally receive trash bags for their belongings, so these duffel bags were a big plus. Each bag contained a blanket, stuffed animal, toy or game, flashlight, hat, mask, gloves, socks, toiletries, etc.
The Fishers community’s volunteer group, S.W.A.T.T. (Seniors with Available Time and Talents), helped pack the bags and deliver them to the Marion County Department of Child Services (DCS). Fortunately, there was enough donation money left over to also deliver a supply of Walmart gift cards for DCS to distribute to families in need.
“Our residents love contributing to the community,” said Paula Elliott, the founder of S.W.A.T.T. “They were especially happy to be able to help amid COVID. Because of the pandemic, the holidays were a bit strange this year, so we’re glad we could lift holiday spirits and bring smiles to faces of all ages.”
