Fishing and Fun with Brookside Village

A giddy group of 31 anglers — rod and line fishermen — showed up for Brookside Village’s 11th annual fishing tournament.

“We had an awesome turnout,” said Brookside Residential Services Director Terry Rotett. “We thank the city of Jasper and the Jasper Bassmasters for making this event possible.”

Donuts and coffee kicked off the event. Then, the anglers tossed their lines into Beaver Lake, where they caught many different kinds of big fish.

Winners of $50 each for largest fish:

Ray Van Winkle — bass

Gary Wagner — crappie

Jerry Werner — bluegill

Dick Cook — redear

Sid Fritch — catfish

Gary Wagner and Tony Hartings won attendance prizes

Winner Ray Van Winkle said, “My cousin and I have been part of this tournament for several years. The people sponsoring it are really nice. It’s a great opportunity to fish Beaver Lake and meet new people. It’s a friendly competition and a lot of fun.”

Jasper Bassmasters Rick Bockleman, Doug Pfau and Austin Kunz weighed each fish. Beaver Lake Superintendent Tom Ashcraft helped grill up burgers and brats for lunch following the fishing.

Rotett said the best part of this event every year is “seeing the smiling faces and how much everyone looks forward to fishing and getting together.”
