Ruth Johnson’s New Lease on Life

Solarbron Pointe resident Ruth Johnson

Although it’s a senior living community, Solarbron Pointe makes resident Ruth Johnson feel like she’s “back in high school.”

While she didn’t travel through time, Ruth did come a long way to find her home here, moving from Albuquerque to Evansville to find a sense of comfort she hasn’t felt since adolescence.

“I don’t have any worries here,” she said. “And instead of a dorm room like I had in boarding school, I have my own apartment, which is much nicer.”

Before she moved into an independent living apartment, Ruth underwent rehab therapy at the community, recovering from back surgery. Signing the lease to live at Solarbron Pointe provided even further relief for her and her family.

“My niece went with me on a tour of the apartments, and later I told her, ‘I didn’t see you because I had my back turned toward you, but I suspect you let out a big sigh of relief that I signed the lease so you didn’t have to make the decision for me,’ and she said she did,” Ruth recalled.

With Solarbron’s transportation service and her nieces and nephews, Ruth doesn’t have to fret about getting around town for shopping and appointments. She rests assured that she’s in warm, compassionate, capable hands with the “friendly, personable, efficient staff.”

“It takes a load off to know that help is around,” Ruth said.

Living at Solarbron has taken years off of her.

“I feel like I’m 18 again, except when I look in the mirror,” she said with a chuckle.

Ruth feels fortunate to be surrounded by similarly revitalized residents.

“Recently, I was sitting in the dining room, and a resident said, ‘I can’t imagine any other place being better for me,’ and I told her I feel the same way,” she said.

Ruth enjoys greeting her neighbors in the morning, checking up on them during breakfast, walking the halls for exercise, attending church services, playing bingo, the list goes on.

When she was writing Christmas cards last year and updating loved ones about her life, Ruth found just one bone to pick.

“My only complaint is that the time goes by too fast around here,” she said. “I don’t know where the days go.”

Time flies when you’re having fun!
